What happens in a MT Bike Relay

For a brief outline check out the race format page

Can individuals enter?

Yes in 2009 there will be a 6 hour solo section, lower cost than the team event. Solo competitors will need to share a tent site with a team.

Night lights

Night lights will be needed for about 1.5hours, and standard set of night lights, (suitable for off road night riding) will have enough battery time.

Course map

A map of the course will be posted on this site nearer to the event date.

The course will be open from about 8am on the day for all competitors to trial the course.

Overnight security

We will have security guards on the site on Friday and Saturday nights. If teams want to set up or sleep overnight, it's fine, but we are not responsible for any lost or damage personal belongings. We suggest you that do not leave the valuables on the site over nights.

Team composition

It is expected that teams will have all their team members go round the course roughly equally, we cannot police this, but would hope that teams will enter the event in the spirit of Fair Play, and not have a ‘token’ member just to make up numbers / gender mix etc, who then hardly rides the course.

Legends, Junior teams

Juniors need to be aged 12 - 17 years on rcae day, and Legends must all be 40+ on race day!!!

How long to do a lap

The distance is 6 - 7 km on mix of tracks, it really depends on fitness, ability etc, we estimate 17 – 30 minutes. Take a look at results from 2008!! Although the course will be slightly different in 2009, it wont greatly affect times.
The 6 hour recreational grade has a 3 km loop track.

Tent sites

Teams are allocated a tent site when they have entered.
If you wish to have a site next to another team, then after entering (all teams concerned need to have entered) you need to contact Lynne. (lynne@wildwellington.co.nz). Space is limited and will be allocated on a first come first served bases.

Can I take a camper van on my tent site?

We will have a special area for Camper vans, please state this on your entry

Can we take a break and restart?

Of course, you can stop and start when ever you like

If one of our riders gets injured and we are left with only two team members can we still continue?

Yes

Will it be cancelled if it rains?

No, mud is fun!!!

Who has entered

If you want to find out if your friends have entered, you can go to the entering pages and click on "Confirmation" page and use the search form. However, they will only appear if entered online.
We will do full team lists in the week before the event.
